Artist Statement

art, like life, is about one thing leading to another…
                        an impulse
                        a paint stick
                        translucent surface
                        rusting metal
                        a glimpse
                        a presence
                        an edge
                        a brush stroke                         

DRESS CODES SERIES…a strong, but fragile, iconic female image, rubbed with
                                   paint and powdered pigments 

KNOTS/TWISTS/FOLDS…soaked, formed, painted, and burnished ---- 3
                                    dimensional painting on paper

TORSO SERIES…emerging linear forms

ZEN BRUSH STROKE SERIES…I demand a lot from a brush stroke ---- emotional,   
                                            physical, and mental focus

POST CARD SERIES…drawn, erased, redrawn/chalkboards, faded hand-colored
                               postcards

ALTERED CHORD SERIES…silent, visual sound

RUSTED SERIES…interrupting a natural process 

BJORKLUNDEN SERIES...maybe the sunlight catches a bent birch branch                                

Diptychs…together but against
 
               “reddest”:  red poppy petals/ translucent in motion – on canvas
                               stems. leaves/ strength in vertical – on metal

               “paired”:  round/squared
                             painted/rubbed
                             soft/hard
                             wired/drawn
                             many/one
                             linen/aluminum

BOOKS…insights

             after Bach/after daVinci   In the human experience, there are shared            
             qualities in music and art:   emotion, energy, feelings, and intuition;  
             structurally, art and music can exist separately or layered to become a
             new entity.
